Fair Play Policy

At Webture Chess Club, we are committed to providing a fair, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all members. This Fair Play Policy outlines the standards expected from every member participating in club activities and events.

By becoming a member and participating in club activities, you agree to follow this policy.


1. Our Commitment to Fair Play

We believe that chess should be played with honesty, integrity, and respect.

Every member is expected to compete fairly and contribute positively to the club community.


2. Expected Conduct

Members are expected to:

  • Play every game honestly and independently.
  • Treat fellow members with courtesy and respect.
  • Follow the rules of any platform used for club activities.
  • Maintain good sportsmanship, regardless of the result.
  • Respect decisions made by club administrators regarding club activities.

3. Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviour is strictly prohibited:

  • Using chess engines, analysis software, or external assistance during live games.
  • Receiving advice or assistance from another person while playing.
  • Using multiple accounts to gain an unfair advantage.
  • Manipulating results or engaging in collusion.
  • Intentionally disconnecting or abandoning games to influence outcomes.
  • Harassing, abusing, threatening, or insulting other members.
  • Any other conduct considered dishonest or detrimental to the integrity of the club.

4. Online Play

Many club activities are conducted on Lichess.

Members must comply with the applicable rules and fair play standards of the platform used for those activities.

Any action taken by the platform, including account restrictions or fair play decisions, may be taken into consideration by Webture Chess Club when administering club activities.


5. Fair Play Reviews

Where concerns about fair play arise, Webture Chess Club may:

  • Review available information relating to the activity.
  • Consider reports from participants.
  • Take into account actions or findings made by the platform hosting the activity.

Members may be contacted for clarification where appropriate.


6. Consequences of Violations

If a member is found to have violated this Fair Play Policy, Webture Chess Club may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Issue a warning.
  • Remove the member from a specific activity or event.
  • Disqualify results where appropriate.
  • Suspend membership for a period determined by the club.
  • Permanently terminate membership in serious or repeated cases.

The action taken will depend on the nature and severity of the violation.


7. Club Decisions

To protect the integrity of the club and its members, decisions relating to fair play, eligibility, and participation are made at the reasonable discretion of Webture Chess Club after considering the available information.


8. Policy Updates

This Fair Play Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in club operations or the platforms used for club activities.
